eQuorum Releases ImageSite® 4.0

New Features And Optional Modules Increase ImageSite's Effectiveness In Handling Complex Engineering Documents

ATLANTA, GEORGIA - May 1, 2002 - eQuorum Corporation today announced the availability of ImageSite® version 4.0, a major update to its Web-based document management software solution. ImageSite combines sophisticated Internet viewing, online collaboration, and mark up functionality with powerful electronic distribution and distributed printing features.

With ImageSite, users anywhere in the world can store, retrieve, review, mark up, collaborate with, discuss, and print a broad range of technical documents throughout the lifecycle of any project or product. ImageSite is a Java application that has the look and feel of a "thick client" software product. The authorized user needs only a standard Web browser to access drawings in the ImageSite repository.

There is no client software or plug-in to install or maintain. This makes ImageSite attractive to users in the architecture, engineering, construction, and manufacturing industries who generally work with other firms on a variety of projects. Project teams often face geographic and time barriers. Manufacturers with diverse locations can face the same challenges in the design of a product and the maintenance of the manufacturing facilities.

Version 4.0 of ImageSite offers a significant number of new features including dynamic document sets, native application launching, an automated document acquisition subsystem, and an advanced job ticket interface that supports high volume WAN-based printing. Version 4.0 also offers optional modules for workflow review and approval, Windows NT domain security, and print room management so that companies can expand ImageSite's capabilities to their specific document needs.

New features in ImageSite 4.0 include the following:

  • Dynamic document sets- ImageSite makes it easier and more efficient to collect sets of documents for distribution and printing, even across multiple project repositories. Sets can be distributed via e-mail messages that include a unique URL that sends the recipient directly to the current version of each document in the set.

  • Native application launching - Gives users greater flexibility in viewing stored documents. Users can store a vast array of document types in ImageSite including Microsoft Office files and Adobe PDF files. Depending on the file type, the user may select ImageSite's built-in Java viewer for its superior speed and markup tools, or launch native applications such as Adobe's Acrobat Reader to take advantage of its search and printing features.

  • Rapid indexing - Lets users quickly index documents and conveniently populate document attribute information to minimize data entry. Can also be used with the optional Workflow module.

  • Automated document acquisition system - New tools make it even easier to populate the ImageSite document repository from other applications or from scan-to-file operations. Use automated polling queues to feed documents directly into ImageSite, with or without attribute data.

  • Advanced job ticket interface - ImageSite Administrators can configure the job ticket interface to provide easy direct-to-device printing for users. Or, they can configure the interface to let advanced users choose from a wide range of plotting options.

  • Enhanced plotting features - Users have the option to print watermarks to stamp plots, print banner sheets, define archived plot sets, and more.

Optional modules available for ImageSite 4.0 include:

  • Microsoft Windows NT Domain Security - ImageSite allows for a central security model making it easy to manage user access in an enterprise environment, especially if hundreds or thousands of users are involved. ImageSite can be configured to match its users against available company Windows domains so that valid users can enter ImageSite without manually logging in. Users who are denied access to the company network are automatically denied access to ImageSite.

  • Document Workflow- Set up a structured process to efficiently handle the review, approval and routing of documents in the ImageSite repository, including single or multiple step procedures. Structured workflows can also be defined for processes such as issuing engineering change orders. A complete document history shows all actions taken.

  • Print Room Manager - Expands eQuorum's Plot Station® software, included within ImageSite, to allow a print room operator to review and manage submitted print jobs, including directing output to various printers, and archiving print sets.

"This release of ImageSite is packed with so many new features and performance enhancements that we almost named it version 5.0," quips Frank D. Bouchard, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at eQuorum. "Considerable development effort went into this release, much of it based on customer suggestions. Our customers appreciate ImageSite's ability to easily integrate with their third party products such as data management systems so that they can better leverage existing investments."

Bouchard continues, "ImageSite gets the right information to the right people, anywhere in the world. With just a Web browser, these people have immediate access to the documents they need. Once they have their documents, they can utilize one of ImageSite's strengths - its integrated WAN-based plotting. This means that a user can access documents from the ImageSite server at a company's headquarters and print them locally - even if the user is in New York and the ImageSite server is in Los Angeles. This capability saves tremendous time and money, and really sets ImageSite apart from other products."

Bouchard notes that while rapid deployment is a key benefit for ImageSite users, so is ImageSite's ability to adapt its feature set to meet unique business requirements without any custom coding. "In the architecture, engineering, and construction industries, ImageSite supports the interactive collaboration of team members on multi-discipline projects. Manufacturers use ImageSite inside the company's firewall as a document management system, and outside the firewall for supply chain collaboration. Reprographics firms use ImageSite as an online plan room to make it easy for their customers to order print jobs from them."

ImageSite is licensed by the number of concurrent users or by the number of documents to be stored in the ImageSite repository. ImageSite is available directly from eQuorum, or through authorized resellers and partners including Xerox Engineering Systems.
