Viewer Supported File Types (ImageSite)

Web-Based Document Management

ImageSite can store and manage any electronic file type. As files are uploaded into ImageSite, a copy of each unconverted native file is stored in compressed format in the repository. Each file is managed within ImageSite according to version rules, attribute assignments, and other ImageSite document management features. Depending on access privileges, each file is also available for check-out/download/check-in and distribution.

Web-Based Document Viewing

ImageSite includes an integrated, high-performance viewer for web browser-based viewing of documents. ImageSite supports web-browser based viewing and markup of most raster file types, including TIF, CALS, BMP, GIF, and JPG. ImageSite also supports web-browser based viewing and markup of MS Office, and Adobe Acrobat files by conversion of these file types to SVG, TIF, or JPG format.

With ImageSite CAD Connectors, ImageSite supports web-browser based viewing and markup of CAD/vector and PostScript file types. Any file type that can be viewed in the ImageSite viewer is also supported for markup, collaboration, and server-side printing. Any file type that is not supported for viewing in the ImageSite viewer is automatically downloaded and opened for viewing in its native application, depending on administrator settings.

Raster Files

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

Raster file types can be viewed directly within the ImageSite viewer, and markup, collaboration, and server-side printing are supported for these file types.

Supported Raster Files:

CALS, IMR, ITG4, IMT, TG4, KFX, TIFF, MAT, SVG, MSP, JPG, NCR, JP2, PAM, BMP, PBM, GIF, PGM, PCX, PNM, PNG, PPM, CGM, RAS, CUT, RAW, DIB, SGI, DICOM, TGA, GEM, U3D, IMG, WBMP, XBM, or XPM

AutoCAD®

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

AutoCAD files are uploaded and rendered to SVG format on the ImageSite server for display in the ImageSite viewer. The default is to include all layouts on upload. If the default is changed, only the active layout is included. eQuorum's AutoCAD Connector and a recent version of AutoCAD must be installed on the server for rendering to occur

Supported AutoCAD® Files:

DWG, DWF, DXF, DXB, DWFX, or PRF

SolidWorks

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

SolidWorks files are uploaded and rendered to SVG format on the ImageSite server for display in the ImageSite viewer. eQuorum's SolidWorks Connector and a recent version of SolidWorks must be installed on the server for rendering to occur.

Supported SolidWorks Files:

SLDASM, SLDDRW, or SLDPRT

Inventor®

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

Inventor files are uploaded and rendered to SVG format on the ImageSite server for display in the ImageSite viewer. The default is to include all layouts on upload. eQuorum's Inventor Connector and a recent version of Inventor must be installed on the server for rendering to occur.

Supported Inventor® Files:

IAM, IDW, or IPT

Revit®

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

Revit files are uploaded and rendered to SVG format on the ImageSite server for display in the ImageSite viewer. eQuorum's Revit Connector and a recent version of Revit must be installed on the server for rendering to occur.

Supported Revit® File:

RVT

MicroStation

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

MicroStation V8 files are uploaded as APFSED files to the ImageSite server, created in metafile format on the client computer, updated on the ImageSite server to include the metafile, then rendered from metafile to SVG format on the ImageSite server. MSV8 must be installed on the client computer for metafile creation to occur. Otherwise, if the Enable client-side rendering option is not set to OFF on your Settings page, the files are placed in an ImageSite render queue to await metafile creation on a client computer where MSV8 is installed. Bulk upload of DGN V8 files to standard projects is not supported. V8 DGNs are rendered to Design Range. V8 PRFs are rendered as specified in the PRF. Excel attachments to the main file are ignored.

MicroStation V7 files are rendered to SVG format on the ImageSite server for display in the ImageSite viewer. MicroStation V7 must be installed on the ImageSite server before ImageSite is installed for rendering to occur.

Note: How CAD document references are handled depends on whether you are working in a standard or workspace project.

Supported MicroStation Files:

DGN, RGB, or PRF

NX and 3D Systems

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

NX and STL CAD files are rendered to JSON3D format on the ImageSite server for display in the ImageSite viewer. When rendering is complete, collaboration and printing are enabled. Markup is currently not enabled.

Supported NX and STL Files:

STL, JT, or PRT

HPGL/HPGL2, PCL

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

Each uploaded file is converted to SVG format for display within the ImageSite viewer.

Supported Files:

Calcomp 907

Plotscript

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

Each uploaded file is converted to JPG format for display within the ImageSite viewer. This enables markup, collaboration, and server-side printing

Supported Plotscript Files:

PFA or PFB

Microsoft Office®

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

Each uploaded file is converted to multi-page ZMF format for display within the ImageSite viewer. This enables markup, collaboration, and server-side printing. The unconverted native file is also compressed and stored in the ImageSite database. Microsoft Office 2010 or newer must be installed on the web server for rendering of MS Office files. eQuorum strongly recommends installing MS Office 2014.

Supported MS Office® Files:

DOC/DOCX, XLS/XLSX, PPT/PPTX, PPS, TXT, or MSG

Adobe Acrobat®

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

Each PDF file is converted to multi-page ZMF format for display within ImageSite. This enables markup, collaboration, and server-side printing. The unconverted native file is also compressed and stored in the ImageSite database. Your ImageSite Administrator must install Adobe Reader 8.x on the web server and the Adobe End-User License Agreement must be accepted before ImageSite is installed for rendering to occur. Automatic Adobe Updates should also be turned off on the web server.

Supported Acrobat® Files:

PDF, DNG, PS, PS2, PS3, PSD, or PSB, EPI, EPS, EPDF, EPSF, or EPT

Video and Audio

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

All uploaded files are maintained in native form for playback in ImageSite. The ImageSite viewer plays these files using the video/audio DASH player embedded in the HTML5 browser. Currently viewable thumbnails are not available for these file types.

Supported Video/Audio Files:

MP3, MP4, WEBM, or OGG

Microsoft Visio®

How are they handled for the ImageSite viewer?

Visio files are rendered using ImageSite's OfficeToPdf.exe module, which uses the installed version of Visio to convert them to PDF. ImageSite then renders the PDF file to the ZMF format for display in the ImageSite viewer.

Supported Visio® Files:

VSD, VSDX, VSDM, or VSTX

Other Files

Document types are used internally in ImageSite:

.ZIP - Compressed format for storing unconverted non-raster document files.
.MUL - Format for markups and markup symbol files.

Standard Projects Note: For file types that are converted on upload to SVG format, you can change the conversion format by checking Upload as Digital Plot on your Settings page, so the documents are converted to monochrome TIFF format. The result is a print-like display, rather than a CAD-like display with layering and reference control. You can also select color or gray scale, rather than monochrome. For more information on how the Color and Gray options work during upload, see the Parameters forms in ImageSite.
